ABOUT
Steel is a sylveon with red and black markings. His head bow is red and white, while his neck bow is black, pink, and red. His pawpads and biological ribbons are colored black.
The ribbons from his head bow are fully black, unlike the ribbons from his neck bow, which is half black and half (a seconary shade of) red. His artificial ribbons, which are made of steel and come from a metal bow on his back, are unpainted and stiff.
He wears clothes sometimes. Usually for work.
He also has heterochromia (not homophobia). His left eye is purple while his right eye is red. RED? No. Blue. He is not homophobic at all. In fact, he is pansexual.
He is a scientist - one who would be needed on an arctic mission. He's a geographist. Not a geologist. Steel has a great interest in the earth. There is some sort of geographical institution that Steel often travels to, located in Snowstorm, Capwich.
He lives in Seedwick, CT, with Ash. He was assigned to study and take care of him after a mission to the arctic, where Ash was found frozen in an iceberg for 99 years.
Steel considers Ash to be his son (despite their 87 or 13 year long age gap). He tries his best to be a good caretaker, but he is usually not careful with what he says. For example, he has told Ash that he looks boring without his cheese hat.
His treatment of Ash as a son instead of a scientific specimen is partly due to Steel wanting to be a parent. Steel is intersex and is infertile as a result.
Steel is very mischevious. He is short-sighted, not in the vision way. And impulsive. He has many tattoos (under his fur). His impulsiveness is also seen from his body modification: a large steel bow that shoots out stiff steel ribbons. These ribbons are retractable.
This is made of parts from an animatronic that was at Charlie Hut, a pizza place that he frequented in his childhood. He eventually fell in love with the animatronic. Unfortunately, the location went out of business. He stole the animatronic and took it apart, and wanted to make it a part of him. And that's exactly what he did, bucko.
Wait... he fell in love... with an animatronic? Erm... yeah, that happened. Awkward!
Speaking of relationships, Steel likes to flirt a lot. This is because he wants somebody to romantically accompany him and also be Ash's second "parent". Steel's flirting style is bad.
Steel loves to get leashed. What? I don't remember putting this.
Steel is friends with Ray and Sidney.

This is a prototype design for Steel.
BACKSTORY
Steel grew up in Capwich County, Evergreen. He regularly traveled between the Evergreen and NY sides of Capwich County.
As a child, he often went to those pizza places with animatronics.
In high school, he told everyone in class that he had "balls of steel". As a result, is classmates started referring to him as Steel.
Later, he got a tattoo on his balls due to peer pressure. Getting the tattoo was very difficult, because he kept getting stimulated and ejaculated on the tattoo artists most times he tried. The tattoo isn't even visible due to the fur. He has very fuzzy balls.
When he tried to have a child in college(?), he noticed that he was unsuccessful every time. He initially thought that his ball tattoos made him infertile. After getting it checked, he found out that he was intersex.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

On September 14, 2022, Silver was created after CoMo decided to name a character after the Silverliner trains that SEPTA uses. This is to mirror Arrow, who was named after the Arrow trains that NJT uses. This led to more characters being named after metal later.
Steel was most likely created in Sep-Dec 2022 from a series of characters who were named after metals, as seen in image [3].
Steel's had a mischevious personality upon conception. I will assume this is because CoJu drew him funny in image [3].
Steel as a character was never used again until August 2024.

In August 2024, CoMo and CoJu were establishing Ash's backstory - Ash was found in an iceberg during an arctic expedition. They needed to have a caretaker for him as a result. They decided to re-purpose a character that they never use, as they already have done several times the past year. CoJu decided to revive Steel, who hasn't been used since late 2022.
CoJu gave Steel ribbons that were made of steel, because his name is steel and such a design choice would be totally radical.
They decided that Steel is colored red, since there weren't any main characters colored red. CoJu designed and picked the colors for Steel in its 08/14/24 drawing with CoMo's oversight. Unfortunately, CoMo decided to make major changes to his design the next day.
They decided that Steel's birthday was on December 14, since December 2022 is when CoMo drew Steel and that the current date was August 14. Steel's birth year was made 1986 since he was in his thirties during the arctic expedition.
The first thing CoMo did while redesigning him was adding ribbons to his neck bow. CoJu was at odds with this decision. The second thing CoMo did was change his red color, since he found it to be too pink and too warm. He colorpicked the red from a photo of an MBTA Red Line train he took [6].
CoMo kept CoJu's original red by putting it on the neck ribbons. There is also pink on Steel's neck bow, which came from CoJu thinking CoMo's colorbase color looked good as a color color.
Steel's attraction to animatronics was due to CoJu saying that he reminded it of Five Night's At Freddy's and because it could serve as an explanation for his steel bow and ribbons.
